The youngest of eight children, William Penn Adair Rogers was born on November 4, 1879 at Rogers Ranch in Oologah, Indian Territory (what is now Oklahoma). His parents, Clement Vann Rogers and Mary Schrimsher, were partly of Cherokee descent. While growing up on the family ranch, Will worked with cattle and learned to ride and lasso from a young age. Morris Badt was born in Schwersenz, Posen, Germany in 1830. He emigrated to New York in 1847 and moved to San Francsico in 1851, where he established a mercantile business. Charles F. Holder (1851-1915) was the creator of the Tournament of Roses parade. A native of Massachusetts, he worked as a curator at the American Museum of Natural History in New York before moving to Pasadena in 1885.
